Vol. 430 No. 2

Written Answers. - Primary School Inspectors.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

331 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education the number of primary school inspectors in her Department at present; the grade of each inspector; the number of vacancies in the inspectorate; and the plans, if any, she has to fill these.

There are 81 persons in my Department's primary school inspectorate in the following grades: Deputy Chief Inspector (1); Assistant Chief Inspector (4); Divisional Inspector (22); District Inspector (52); District/Post-primary Inspector (2).

It is my policy to keep staffing levels generally in my Department, including the inspectorate, under on-going review with the intention of ensuring, as far as possible, adequate levels of staffing. Such a review must, of course, take place within the confines of the prevailing budgetary situation and Government policy on public sector numbers.
