Vol. 430 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Health Strategy.

Robert Molloy

Question:

33 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Health if he is planning to restructure the country's eight health boards; if so, the form this restructuring will take; and if he plans to abolish or combine any of the boards.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

258 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health the proposals on the future of the health boards.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 33 and 258 together. I am currently considering legislative proposals to replace the Eastern Health Board with a new authority and for reform of the wider health board structure to achieve better co-ordination between community and hospital services and to improve accountability.

These proposals will be an important part of the new national health strategy which I am preparing at present.
