Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

106 Mr. Durkan asked the Taoiseach if, in respect of his Department or his Ministers of State, he will give the names of any persons or agents, other than the established Civil Service, appointed by him to any position within the ambit of his Department since 10 February 1993; if he will give their job descriptions, terms of employment and salary scale; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information sought by the Deputy, which relates to four people, is contained in a schedule which will be circulated with the Official Report.

Ms Margaret Conway, Personal Secretary, Government Chief Whip's Office

(a) The appointee is required to perform any duties in the Constituency Office of the Government Chief Whip as are considered appropriate to the position; (b) the position is temporary, unestablished and wholetime; (c) the rate of remuneration is £160.72 per week.

Ms Marie McHale, Personal Assistant to the Deputy Government Press Secretary
(a) The appointee is required to perform any duties in the Government Information Services as considered appropriate by the Deputy Government Press Secretary; (b) the position is temporary, unestablished and wholetime; (c) the rate of pay is £21,372 per annum.
Ms Mary Crisham, Personal Assistant, Government Chief Whip's Office
(a) The appointee is required to perform any duties in the Constituency Office of the Government Chief Whip as are considered appropriate to the position; (b) the position is temporary, unestablished and wholetime; (c) the rate of pay is £245.08 per week with an additional weekly allowance of £24.51.
Dr. David Cabot, Consultant on the Environment
(a) The appointee's contract as Adviser on the Environment expired on 28 February 1993. It was extended for a period of one month to 31 March 1993; (b) Dr. Cabot will continue his connection with the Department of the Taoiseach as consultant on the Environment. The precise details of Dr. Cabot's new contract are yet to be finalised; (c) as Adviser, Dr. Cabot was employed on a daily fee basis at a rate of £134 per day subject to an overall maximum of 13 days per month.
