Vol. 430 No. 2

Written Answers. - Exceptional Needs Payments.

Bernard Allen

Question:

126 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount paid in 1992 under the exceptional needs heading for supplementary welfare allowance.

Health boards do not maintain expenditure data in such a way as to provide the information requested by the Deputy.

A statistical system which will allow health boards to provide expenditure analysis on a community care area basis in respect of the various elements of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme, including exceptional needs payments, has been developed by my Department in consultation with the boards. Discussions are continuing with the health boards and with staff interests on the implementation of the new system across all health boards.
