193 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Education if she intends granting full recognition to the Irish Martial Arts Commission; and if her attention has been drawn to the fact that failure to grant such recognition is preventing the Irish Martial Arts Commission competing at international level.
196 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education whether she has had discussions with the Irish Martial Arts Commission regarding official recognition of their organisation by her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
216 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she has received correspondence from the Irish Martial Arts Commission requesting Government recognition for that body which would in turn enable them obtain representative status on behalf of this country in international competition; if the necessary recognition can be given; if she will make a decision on the matter in the near future; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 193, 196 and 216 together.
An application from the Irish Martial Arts Commission for recognition as the National Governing Body for Martial Arts is under consideration in my Department. Mr. Liam Aylward, Minister of State in my Department, has met with representatives of the Commission to discuss the issues involved.
In view of the complex nature of this matter I am not yet in a position to make a final decision on this application.
