Question:50 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Finance if new EC Structural Funds will be sought for the improvement of navigation and boat tie-up facilities on Lough Ree.

It is proposed that plans for the improvement of the Shannon Navigation, which will include the provision of additional moorings on Lough Ree, will form part of the next application for EC Structural Funds.
Specifically, the Commissioners of Public Works are planning to provide a public mooring facility in the Glasson area of Athlone which is a popular area for boating. In addition, a site survey is being commissioned at Ballyleague, Co. Roscommon, with a view to providing additional mooring facilities there as well.
