Vol. 430 No. 7

Written Answers. - Heart By-Pass Operations.

Jim Higgins

Question:

106 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health the number of patients who were listed on the public waiting list for heart by-pass operations in May 1992, who have had their surgery in the meantime; and the number who did not have surgery but who have died in the meantime.

The number of patients on the waiting list for cardiac surgery in May 1992 was 1,217. The number of cardiac surgery operations carried out from May 1992 to May 1993 is 815. I have asked the hospitals involved in cardiac surgery for the further information required and I will be in touch with the Deputy when the information is available to me.
