Vol. 430 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dunshaughlin (Meath) School.

Colm M. Hilliard

Question:

108 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement to allay the anxiety of teachers, pupils and parents following the removal of asbestos panels from the ceiling of the community college, Dunshaughlin, County Meath.

Asbestos panels were removed from parts of this school in the summer of 1992 in compliance with all the relevant legislation and safety guidelines. Eolas, which was engaged as an independent assessor to ensure that the required safety standards were met, also carried out the necessary clearance tests on completion of the works.

As concern has been expressed recently about the current levels of asbestos in the school my Department is arranging for further investigations and assessment to be carried out to ascertain if there is any cause for the concern. If it is found that the levels are above prescribed limits appropriate action will be taken without delay.
