Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Service.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

31 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any plans to evaluate the way in which local authority services around the country cater for the particular needs of women and children.

The organisation and delivery of local authority services to meet the needs of all of those for whom the services are provided, including the particular needs of women and children, are primarily matters for the local authorities themselves. In this connection, I understand that Dublin Corporation are considering a report of a survey conducted by its Community and Environment Department of how the Corporation's functions and services impact on the lives of women.

I am having the recommendations in the report of the Second Commission on the Status of Women examined in so far as they relate to services provided by my Department and/or local authorities with a view to identifying any relevant areas requiring attention.
