Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - EC Directives.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

90 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to any EC action in the investigation into transposition of EC Directives; and, if so, which ones.

, Wexford): I assume that the question relates to proceedings by the EC Commission in relation to transposition of Directives for which my Department is responsible. While the status of such proceedings is not clear in every case, my Department has identified the following cases in which proceedings are currently in train: Directive 76/160/EEC concerning the quality of bathing water; Directive 76/464/EEC on pollution caused by certain dangerous substances discharged into the aquatic environment of the Community; Directive 85/337/EEC on the assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment; Directive 87/217/EEC on the prevention and reduction of environmental pollution by asbestos; Directive 91/157/EEC on batteries and accumulators containing certain dangerous substances.
