Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Region Development Plan.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

96 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment his views on whether it is appropriate that a development plan is currently being finalised for 550,000 Dubliners by a County Council, that is, Dublin County Council, which will shortly cease to exist; and if it would be more appropriate to have the development of the Dublin region planned by the three new Dublin counties in close consultation with Dublin City Council, possibly as part of the promised Dublin Regional Authority.

I consider it appropriate and necessary for Dublin County Council to urgently complete the review of the County Development Plan, 1983, which is already 5 years overdue, so as to provide an up-to-date planning framework. Relevant provisions of the plan will have effect in the three new Dublin Counties but subject, of course, to the right of the new councils to review and vary the plan, or to make a new plan for their areas.

I will, in due course, be considering arrangements for co-ordinating the development plans of the Dublin local authorities, including a possible role for the proposed regional authority.
