Vol. 431 No. 2

Written Answers. - Free Meat Distribution.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

113 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health if he has received any complaints regarding the quality of the free meat awarded to recipients of long term unemployment; if he has had any reports of illness following the latest issue of the meat; the actions, if any, he has taken or will take; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am advised that no complaints have been received by my Department concerning the quality of the free meat supplied in a canned form to recipients of long term unemployment payments. I am also advised that no adverse reports have been received concerning illness associated with this product.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry requested a report on samples of the product from the Dublin region public analyst. The public analyst has indicated that these samples were wholesome, nutritious and fit for human consumption.
