Vol. 431 No. 3

Written Answers. - Use of Growth Promoters.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

32 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when he expects prosecutions to come before the courts in cases in which individuals and companies have been charged with possessing and distributing illegal animal growth promoting substances; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Forty-one persons have been prosecuted for offences involving growth promoters. Summonses have issued in a further 29 cases. The hearing of these cases has been adjourned by the District Court judges concerned pending the outcome of matters currently before the High Court and the Supreme Court.

I am advised not to comment any further on the matters which are before the superior courts.
