42 Ms. Keogh asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if, in relation to the proposed establishment of An Bord Bia, that function can be discharged by An Bord Tráchtála; if the existing food marketing function of An Bord Tráchtála will be transferred to An Bord Bia; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
As the Deputy is probably aware, the question of the institutional arrangements for the export promotion/ market development of food was the subject of a recommendation in the report of the Expert Group on the Food Industry which was published by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Deputy J. Walsh on 21 April this year.
The Government has not yet taken any decisions on this or other recommendations of the group but it is intended that such decisions will be taken at an early date.
