Bord Fáilte estimate that approximately 70 per cent of tourist numbers visit rural areas annually during the course of their Irish holiday. They know also that a significant proportion of visitors are attracted by aspects of the physical environment in Ireland. However, it would not be possible to calculate, with any real degree of accuracy, the percentage of annual tourism accounted for by such interests.
