Vol. 431 No. 7

Written Answers - Plastic Oil Storage Tanks Standards.

Question:

55 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the standards that are currently in existence in this country for the manufacture and installation of plastic oil storage tanks; and if he has satisfied himself with the performance of such tanks under fire conditions, particularly when compared with steel tanks.

There is no Irish or European standard for plastic oil storage tanks. However, CEN, the European Committee for Standardisation (of which Ireland, through the National Standards Authority of Ireland, is a member) is drawing up a standard for these products. When this standard is published, the member states will be obliged to adopt it as a national standard.

I am not aware of any problems in relation to the performance of plastic oil storage tanks.
