John Ellis

Question:

76 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will pay arrears of headage grants due to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim.

The person named did not declare that he had an offfarm income for the income tax years ended 5 April 1980 to 5 April 1984. When documentary evidence of his off farm income was produced he was found to be ineligible for the cattle headage grants paid to him for each of the years 1980 to 1984 and for the suckler cow premium paid for 1984.

He only applied for the calf premium scheme in 1985, 1986 and 1989 and grants due have been off-set against the debt.

He did not apply for any headage or premia grants in 1987 or 1988.

His 1990 and 1991 cattle headage, equines headage and suckler cow premium schemes grants have also been off-set against the debt and a balance will be deducted from his 1992 grants.
