Vol. 431 No. 8

Written Answers. - Child Care Act Implementation.

Paul Bradford

Question:

74 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Southern Health Board is not acting in compliance with the terms of the Child Care Act, 1991, on the matter of a child care advisory committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Alan Shatter

Question:

124 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health whether each health board has established a child care advisory committee as required pursuant to Section 7 of the Child Care Act, 1991; the date when each such child care advisory committee was established; the names and qualifications of each person appointed by each health board to such committee; the health boards that have not, to date, established a child care advisory committee; and the action, if any, he intends taking with regard to each such health board's failure to comply with its statutory obligations.

I propose to take Questions 74 and 124 together.

Each health board has established a child care advisory committee for its area in accordance with the requirements of Section 7 of the Child Care Act 1991. This section was only brought into operation on 1 December 1992 and, having regard to the fact that consultations with voluntary bodies providing child care and family support services were necessary, I would like to commend the health boards on the expeditious manner in which they have finalised the membership of the child care advisory committees.

The detailed information requested by Deputy Shatter is being collected from the Boards and I shall forward it to the Deputy in due course.
