Vol. 431 No. 8

Written Answers. - General Register Office.

Alan Shatter

Question:

122 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health the arrangements in place to ensure that, in the event of the relocation of the General Registrar's Office, records that are not computerised will be fully and properly maintained and kept available to members of the public for research purposes.

The relevant legislation provides for the proper maintenance, at local and central levels, of records of births, deaths and marriages and the means whereby members of the public can have access to them. Any relocation of the General Register Office will not affect these provisions.
