Vol. 432 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Working Hours.

Richard Bruton

Question:

191 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the total number of hours of over-time worked, in the most recent twelve month period for which figures are available, by persons employed by his Department or by public bodies under the aegis of his Department; the proportion this represents of total man hours worked; and the impact the proposed EC Directive on working hours will have on reducing this level of overtime.

Overtime working represents an insignificant proportion of total hours worked in the Department of Tourism and Trade since its establishment on 21 January 1993. It is not anticipated that the proposed EC Directive on working hours will impact on overtime levels.

The working of overtime hours by staff of the semi-State bodies under the aegis of my Department is a day to day matter for each of the bodies concerned. CERT, An Bord Tráchtála and Bord Fáilte have confirmed to me, however, that it is not anticipated that the proposed EC Directive will affect the level of overtime worked in their organisations.
