Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Connaughton — the funding of the new sewerage scheme at Williamstown, County Galway; (2) Deputy Deenihan — the need for action to protect tourists from physical attacks and robberies so as to prevent potential damage to the Irish tourism industry in view of a series of attacks on tourists, one as recently at this weekend: (3) Deputy Connor — the need for the Minister for Social Welfare to review the application requirements of the students' summer jobs scheme in view of the fact that the current regulations are disqualifying the majority of applicants; (4) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the reason persons who have a mild physical disability are not allowed take the full manual driving test and are confined to automatic cars in their driving test as in the case of a person (details supplied); and the need to ensure that this system is changed; (5) Deputy Byrne — the reopening of the gymnasium and the extension of the metalwork room at Ramsgrange Community School, Ramsgrange, New Ross, County Wexford; (6) Deputy Dukes — the urgent need to provide for the publication of the ESRI report on the operation of the EC Structural Funds and the preparation of policy for the next phase of Structural Funds; (7) Deputy De Rossa — the recent instruction issued by the Garda authorities that alleged offenders, including those involved in serious crimes, should not be charged when arrested but should be dealt with later by summons; and the implications of this instruction for policing and the battle against crime; (8) Deputy Doyle — the fears of the residents of Cahore Village, Gorey, County Wexford, due to ongoing coastal erosion threatening their homes and their village; (9) Deputy Gilmore — the failure to provide adequate alternative facilities for the Dublin South City school project where teachers and pupils have been without permanent accommodation since their school was burnt down on 17 March; (10) Deputy Ned O'Keeffe — the dissatisfaction of the employees of Dennison (Ireland) Limited, Youghal, County Cork, arising from the proposed loss of jobs at the plant; (11) Deputy Jim O'Keeffe — the need to provide additional manpower and equipment for the Garda Síochána and other relevant authorities to enable them to combat the increasing level of drug landings in south west Cork; and the further need to establish a Euro-funded auxiliary coast watch service; (12) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe — the need to approve the appointment of speech therapists in the Cork area where there are in excess of 1,000 persons on the Southern Health Board waiting list; (13) Deputy Broughan — the need for new legislation on the Garda Complaints board; (14) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the number of projects delayed and ceased in south Tipperary due to the non-renewal of social employment schemes; and the concern as to when these schemes can be restarted in view of the enormous repercussions for organisations and community associations; (15) Deputy Flanagan — the need for the Minister for Education to approve the carrying out of refurbishment, extension and essential repairs to the national school at Clonmacnoise, a former centre of education renowned throughout Europe where the education facilities are now most unsatisfactory; (16) Deputy Deasy — the chaotic conditions obtaining at the Passport Office in Molesworth Street, Dublin 2.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following: (1) Deputy Dukes; (2) Deputy De Rossa; (3) Deputy J. O'Keeffe and (4) Deputy E. O'Keeffe.
