255 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the programmes of study that are available at the National Distance Education Centre in Dublin City University; if she supports the extension and broadening of the programmes available; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
The programmes of study available are shown in the following schedule. The importance of distance education programmes in making courses available to those who cannot attend conventional courses cannot be stressed too strongly. I fully support the extension and broadening of these programmes and it was with great pleasure, therefore, that I responded to the request to launch the new B.A. Degree in Humanities on Friday 28 May.

B.Sc. in Information Technology; Diploma in Information Technology; Graduate Diploma in Applications of Information Technology in Accounting; Bachelor of Arts; Diploma in Arts.
Continuing Professional Education:
Microcomputers and Accounting; Business Applications of Microcomputers; European Programme for Advanced Continuing Education (EuroPACE); Project Management; Software Engineering and Computer Architecture and Operating Systems.
Research and Development
The Centre is currently leading a number of European Programmes on the application of new technologies in distance and open learning:
Transnational Information Technology Skills using Multimedia; Peripheral Regions Infrastructure for Satellite Delivered Modules; Interactive Multimedia Design and Production; Access to higher distance education opportunities; Cost efficiency of alternative media in distance education.
