Vol. 432 No. 1

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation on Culliton Report.

John Bruton

Question:

125 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has any proposals to introduce legislation to deal with any aspect of the Government decisions on the Culliton report; and if so, if he will give details of the proposed legislation.

In relation to my Department's sphere of activity, the Culliton report drew attention to the need to achieve a closer integration of the tax and social welfare systems. The Programme for a Partnership Government contains a commitment to examine this and the Minister of State for Social Welfare has been given special responsibility in this regard. The question of specific legislative proposals in this area will be considered in the light of the outcome of this examination.
