Vol. 432 No. 2

Written Answers. - Funding for US Emigrant Groups.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

25 Mr. Deenihan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if the Government will make additional funding available for emigrant services in the US following the recent commitment to emigrant groups in the US that it would be provided.

I am happy to inform the House that an additional £100,000 from the Vote for Foreign Affairs is being provided in support of emigration assistance groups in the US, bringing the total available this year to £150,000.

I announced the increase during my recent visit to New York where I had an opportunity to meet and discuss their work on behalf of Irish immigrants with local welfare group representatives.
