Vol. 432 No. 2

Written Answers. - Funding for School Facilities.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

120 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Education when sanction will be given for finance for the provision of a tarmac playground, lighting, repairs to the central heating system and external painting of Ardscoil Lorgan, Castleblayney, County Monaghan.

The funding of all capital works at post-primary schools is dependent on the availability of capital resources and on my Department's other commitments and priorities.

In recent years because of increasing demands on the limited capital available to my Department it has been necessary to commit available resources to the provision of the most urgently needed classroom accommodation. In this context a Library-Classroom was sanctioned for Ardscoil Lorgan last March.

Accordingly, funding of the capital works at Castleblaney Vocational School referred to by the Deputy cannot be considered in the current financial year within the capital resources available to my Department.
