Vol. 432 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teachers Service with APSO.

Noel Ahern

Question:

189 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if superannuation contributions can be maintained by her Department for teachers who take up Third World development projects with APSO; and if she will make a statement on the matter with specific reference to the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin.

Under the terms of the statutory secondary teachers superannuation scheme only teaching service given within the State is capable of being made pensionable. Service given outside the State which is pensionable in another state is not transferable.

Teachers who return to pensionable employment following a period of service with APSO may purchase notional service either by periodic deductions from their salary or by a lump sum method of payment.
