The Office of the Revenue Commissioners has been undergoing a process of reorganisation and radical change in recent years aimed at optimising the resources available to assist them in their continued drive to promote a climate of voluntary compliance, to deter evasion by means of swift and targeted enforcement action, and to utilise all legislative and adaministrative means to tackle tax avoidance.
In 1988, there were 6,191 staff employed in the Office of the Revenue Commissioners. There are currently 6,064 staff employed in the office, which, I am satisfied, represents adequate staffing for the office.
