Question:

97 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Social Welfare if there is any comprehensive review planned of the whole system in relation to contributory pension as the existing system with its 1953 base should be reviewed; and if a reduced pension will be introduced for those with a lower average than 20.

The National Pensions Board is currently finalising its report on pensions generally. The matters raised by the Deputy are among the issues being addressed in this report. I expect to receive the report shortly and the matters will be considered further in the light of the recommendations contained therein.
