Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Molloy — the need to provide a prefabricated classroom at Tooreeney national school, County Galway, from the commencement of the school year in September, 1993, to cater adequately for the 71 pupils who will be attending this two classroom national school from that date; (2) Deputy Crawford — when the next tenant purchase scheme will be offered to local authorities; (3) Deputy Deenihan — the need for action to protect tourists from physical attacks and robberies so as to prevent potential damage to the Irish tourism industry in view of a series of attacks on tourists recently; (4) Deputy Pat Gallagher — the urgent need to sanction the group water scheme for tinnycross, Tullamore, County Offaly, given the serious pollution of the local ground water which is causing distress to residents of the local area; (5) Deputy Brendan Smith — the continued inconvenience caused to two elderly ladies (details supplied) in County Cavan which resulted in these people being denied access to their home on Friday evening and Saturday morning, 11 and 12 June, 1993, as a result of the British Army placing a barrier on the Culde-sac road leading to their home on the Cavan-Fermanagh Border; (6) Deputy Gilmore — the decision of the Government to instruct the management of Aer Lingus to meet with the trade unions to discuss the grave situation in the company; (7) Deputy T. Ahearn — the cessation of numerous social employment schemes in south Tipperary due to the lack of funding, which is causing a total stoppage of recruitment at a time of year which is most suitable for many projects; and the need for funding to enable these projects to proceed immediately; (8) Deputy Deasy — whether the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs has received complaints from Irish travellers to and from Britain about the unpleasant attitude of a number of British immigration and police officers; (9) Deputy Byrne — the reopening of the gymnasium and the extension of the metalwork room at Ramsgrange Community School, New Ross, County Wexford; (10) Deputy J. Higgins — the refusal to give special consideration in the Leaving Certificate examination to a person (details supplied) with a proven specific learning difficulty; (11) Deputy Sheehan — the need to progress Caheragh group water scheme, County Cork; (12) Deputy Sargent — the resources available to the Wildlife Service and whether the Minister for Finance has any plans to upgrade the service in the Dublin area which at present is covered by one officer who is often called to surrounding counties as well; (13) Deputy Callely — the issue of protective notice to staff and proposed short-time working, said to be due to business and cash flow difficulties, while at the same time, Aer Lingus commuter aircraft are going overseas for maintenance; (14) Deputy McGrath — the closure of Athlone courthouse, County Westmeath, in July 1992, by order of the District and Circuit Court judges and the steps the Minister for Justice proposes to take to provide court facilities in Athlone; (15) An Teachta Ó Cuív — na pleananna atá ag an Aire Oideachais le buanchóireacht a chur ar fáil do Ghaelscoil Dara ar an Rinn Mhóir, Contae na Gaillimhe; (16) Deputy de Valera — the difficulties faced by many disabled people in obtaining employment due to the fact that the 3 per cent quota has not been reached in the public service; (17) Deputy Creed — the failure of the Department of Education to provide adequate resources or time to organise a “sports for all” day in our national schools; (18) Deputy Quill — if the “sports for all” day for national schools announced to take place on 17 June 1993 has been organised in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Department of Education.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Deasy, McGrath, Molloy and Byrne.
