Vol. 432 No. 6

Written Answers. - Job Creation.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

121 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if, based on achievements to date, he will give details of the net number of extra jobs likely, with some degree of certainty, to be created in 1993 or 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I assume the Deputy is referring to employment in the manufacturing sector, promotional responsibility for which falls under the aegis of my Department.

Since the net number of jobs created in any period of time is influenced by very many factors, including demand conditions on the home and export markets, it is not possible to forecast with any degree of certainty the net number of jobs in the manufacturing sector likely to be created in 1993 or 1994.
