Vol. 432 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Donegal Water Supply Schemes.

Patrick D. Harte

Question:

75 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need to provide a sewerage scheme in the village of Manor-cunningham, County Donegal; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the scheme was approved in 1970 and that, unless there is finance provided for this necessary work in the next operational programme for Structural Funds, there is little hope of the scheme being provided soon; if he will provide funds for this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A preliminary report for the Manorcunningham sewerage scheme was approved by my Department some time ago and further advancement of the scheme now rests with Donegal County Council. The question of funding does not arise at this stage.

Patrick D. Harte

Question:

76 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the lack of a piped water supply in the Manorcunningham/Newtown-cunningham, Ballinalacky, to St. Johnston and Drumoghill areas in County Donegal, known locally as the Laggan desert, to the fact that the further development of Lough Mourne regional water scheme is necessary to supply these areas and to the fact that, in order to achieve this overall objective, the proposals to deal with all aspects of the new development will need a very high priority in the next structural funds programme; if, bearing in mind that families are waiting on a piped water supply for twenty years, he will make a statement on the matter which will give families in these areas some hope and fulfil the commitments made to them many years ago.

Contract documents for a scheme to extend the capacity of the Lough Mourne regional water supply scheme headworks are being prepared by Donegal County Council. Further consideration will be given to the proposals when they have been received.
