Vol. 433 No. 3

Written Answers. - GMS Telephone Network.

John Bruton

Question:

31 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if the extension to Ireland of the GSM European standardised mobile telephone network will be part of Ireland's usage of structural funds between now and 1999.

I would refer the Deputy to my response to Questions Nos. 28 and 263 of 27 April, 1993 (Official Report Volume 429, No. 6 Columns 1236 to 1240) when I advised that preparation of the National Development Plan which would set out the Government's proposals for the use of EC assistance under the next round of Structural Funds was being co-ordinated by my colleague the Minister for Finance. I also advised that final decisions as to the level of assistance to be designated for any area and the priority of particular types of projects would depend on the Government's assessment of overall national priorities and the outcome of negotiations with the EC. The position is unchanged since I gave that reply.
