144 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the hardship being caused to a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow because of her inability to be included in the ESF maintenance grant for her course in Galway regional technical college; and if, in view of the hardship in this case, she will ensure that this person is provided with the grant.
I understand from the Town of Bray vocational education committee, which is the body entrusted with the administration of the ESF maintenance grants scheme in this case, that no formal grant application was received from the person in question. I also understand that in discussions with the vocational education committee she was advised that she was not eligible on age grounds to be considered as a mature candidate under the terms of the scheme and that the family reckonable income in her case appeared to exceed the limit prescribed in the scheme.
