Vol. 433 No. 5

Written Answers. - Protection Order Procedure.

Martin Cullen

Question:

19 Mr. Cullen asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if, in view of the unsatisfactory nature of the present protection order procedure, he will give the plans, if any, he has for reform in this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have already indicated to the House in replies to questions on 1 June 1993 that proposals to amend the law on barring orders are being considered in my Department and I can confirm that the question of amending the law on protection orders is also being considered. In the context of the preparation of any amending legislation on protection orders account will be taken of the recommendations contained in the report on the Second Commission on the Status of Women and the report on the Kilkenny Incest Investigation.
