85 Miss Harney asked the Minister for the Environment the administrative procedure that is in place for processing a recommendation by a Rights Commissioner that a Vocational Education Committee should be willing to grant credit for service with Irish Sugar plc. on a personal basis for pension purposes.
The legislation which governs the superannuation of local authority staff, including the staff of vocational education committees, allows, on a reciprocal basis, for the reckoning of service given with other bodies under transfer of service arrangements. I understand the Irish Sugar plc. declined to participate in these arrangements and accordingly service given with the company is not transferable under the legislation.
