Vol. 433 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ballinamore-Ballyconnell Canal.

Edward Nealon

Question:

55 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Finance the extra area of navigable waters that will be linked up with the Shannon with the coming into operation of the Ballinamore-Ballyconnell Canal.

The Ballinamore-Ballyconnell Canal is 62.5 km long. The refurbished waterway will connect the River Shannon with Upper and Lower Loughs Erne where there is an 86 km stretch of navigable water from Belturbet in County Cavan to Beleek in County Fermanagh.

A further extension of the Erne system upstream of Belturbet is under consideration.
