Question:153 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education the current timetable for the publication of a White Paper on Education and an Education Act.

As the Deputy will be aware, I have announced my intention to convene a national education convention in the autumn. This will be a very important part of the overall process of debate and dialogue leading to the White Paper.
I will shortly be announcing details of the convention. I want to give full consideration to the proceedings and outcome in formulating the White Paper. Subject to this, my objective will be to adhere as closely as possible to the timetable set out in the Programme for a Partnership Government for the publication of the White Paper and Education Act.
