Vol. 433 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - National Drugs Advisory Board Appointment.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

8 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health when he intends to appoint a Chief Executive to the National Drugs Advisory Board.

The appointment of a Chief Executive Officer to the National Drugs Advisory Board is a priority. A person recently selected after interview for this post has now indicated that he does not propose to accept the position.

My Department is now considering the consequences of this decision in consultation with the chairman of the board.

(Carlow-Kilkenny): I regret that that resignation has taken place. While the Minister may be too young to remember the popular song “The Pub With No Beer”, a drugs advisory board with no chief executive is in much the same position and I hope the matter can be rectified very quickly.
