Vol. 433 No. 7

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Quill — whether the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications intends to introduce appropriate measures to enable voluntary organisations to benefit from the Telecom Éireann subsidy and to help them to meet the increased costs of local telephone calls due to be introduced from September 1993; (2) Deputy Ned O'Keeffe — the danger of bungie jumping as recently highlighted at the Cork summer show; (3) Deputy McGrath — the need to retain the third assistant teacher at Ballymore national school, County Westmeath, because of the increase in pupil numbers at that school; (4) Deputy De Rossa — the case of 300 TEAM Aer Lingus employees who were issued with P45s on Monday, 5 July, and their claims that the company is being mismanaged and is turning business away; (5) Deputy Deenihan — the disadvantage to students who sat the 1992 junior certificate woodwork theory paper through Irish as the paper was riddled with mistakes; and the lack of corrective action by the Department of Education; (6) Deputy Richard Bruton — the publication of the Glackin report in the middle of the night; whether there is a need for any changes in legislation or codes of practice of semi-State companies arising from the report; and whether the Minister for Enterprise and Employment has obtained any preliminary view from the Revenue Commissioners on the transactions involved; (7) Deputy Allen — the serious allegations made by the British Home Office that Mr. John Matthews has links with terrorists and the risk he now faces because of these allegations.

Selected for discussion are the matters raised by Deputies Deenihan, McGrath, Richard Bruton and Quill.
