Written Answers. - Asthma Incidence.

Question:

19 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Health his views on the high incidence of asthma among schoolchildren; and the steps, if any, he proposes to take to deal with the matter.

The reasons for the increase in the prevalence of asthma internationally are as yet poorly understood but much research is in progress to try and elucidate the underlying factors.

In conjunction with the Asthma Society of Ireland my Department is endeavouring to increase awareness and understanding of the disease among the public.

The most modern and effective preventive and curative agents are available in this country.
