Vol. 433 No. 7

Written Answers. - Assistance for US Immigration Welfare Groups.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

66 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if any assistance can be offered to a person (details supplied) who caters for emigrants in Boston, USA; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person to whom the Deputy refers is a member of an organisation which has given enormous help and support to newly-arrived Irish immigrants to the Boston area. The Government is very much aware of the organisation's assistance to our young people, so generously and selflessly given, and has acknowledged this by the provision of financial assistance to the organisation over the past number of years from funds made available from the Vote for Foreign Affairs.

We are happy to continue to support the organisation and its enormously valuable work in whatever way we can. In this connection, I will shortly be considering applications for assistance from the £150,000 available this year for immigration welfare groups in the United States.
