Question:

130 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Health the number of people on the waiting list for hip replacement operations in the South-Eastern Health Board area, by county; the number, by county, who have been on the list for up to one year, up to two years, up to three years, and so forth; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of people on the waiting list in the South-Eastern Health Board area for hip replacement surgery is as follows:—

Orthopaedic surgery is one of the specialities which is being targeted in the £26 million Major Action Programme on Hospital In-Patient Waiting Lists. Under this programme, I have provided funding for an additional 100 hip replacement operations and 160 other orthopaedic procedures to be carried out in the South-Eastern Health Board area in 1993.
