Vol. 434 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sheep Quota.

Question:

143 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when his Department received an application for a sheep quota from a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; the number of working days this matter has already been in the hands of his Department; the progress to date and likely outcome of this application; the reason correspondence concerning this matter to an official of his Department went unanswered; if the said correspondence is still on file; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application for ewe premium reserve quota was received from the person named prior to 17 September 1993 which was the closing date for applications. His application has been in the hands of my Department for 16 working days since that date and is being processed along with approximately 10,500 more applications for reserve quota which have been received.

As soon as all the applications have been processed, which is expected to take a further 6-8 weeks, and the total number of applicants deemed eligible for reserve quota has been established the person named, if successful, will be notified of the quota allocated to him.

My Department is unable to trace any previous correspondence from the person named. He has however forwarded a copy of the correspondence referred to which has been associated with his application for reserve quota.
