Question:

178 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Health the number of medical cards issued to persons residing in the Midland Health Board area, that is, in the counties of Longford, Westmeath, Offaly and Laois for each of the past five years.

Statistics regarding medical cards are collated by the General Medical Services (Payments). The figures requested by the Deputy are set out in the following table and show the number of medical cards on issue at 31 December for each of the years 1988 to 1992.
