Vol. 434 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Clearance Certificates.

Enda Kenny

Question:

36 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the number of tax clearance certificates issued by the Revenue Commissioners in 1993 to date; the total amount involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that 32,935 tax clearance certificates have been issued by the Collector General's Office in 1993 to date. It is expected that the total for the year will be about 45,000. It is not clear what is meant by the reference in the Deputy's question to the "total amount involved" but if he wishes to pursue the matter, my Department will be happy to assist. The scheme itself is making a significant contribution to improved tax compliance.
