Vol. 434 No. 6

Written Answers. - Santry (Dublin) Garda Station.

Seán Haughey

Question:

82 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí attached to Santry Garda station, Dublin 9; if she has satisfied herself with these numbers and that the Ardmore-Montrose Estate, Dublin 5 receives adequate Garda attention.

The allocation of Garda manpower to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities who make their decisions having regard to ongoing assessments of the policing requirements of those areas. They inform me that the current manpower at Santry station is 75.

The Garda also inform me that there is a community gardaí with specific responsibility for the Ardmore-Montrose Estate. In addition, mobile patrols from Santry station including the Detective Branch, Divisional Task Force and Drugs Unit are conducted throughout the District, including the Ardmore-Montrose Estate. The Garda consider the level of police attention in this estate to be adequate to meet the needs of the area, but they continually review these arrangements, which of course are flexible and can be changed to deal with any specific local problems which might arise. This has happened already with regard to a perceived drug problem in the area.
