Vol. 434 No. 9

Written Answers. - Gilt Market.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

142 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance if he will respond to a bank (details supplied) which urged international investors to approach investment on the Irish gilt market with extreme caution.

Clearly the Irish gilt market offers excellent value to both domestic and foreign investors. This is evident from the fact that over recent weeks the differential between Irish gilt yields and some key corresponding foreign yields has improved significantly in Ireland's favour. This improvement reflects strong demand for Irish gilts from both residents and non-residents. I do not propose to comment on one reported viewpoint which is clearly not supported by the market.
