Vol. 434 No. 10

Written Answers. - Restrictive Regulations.

Ivor Callely

Question:

104 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if, in view of an article by a leading Irish businessman in the Sunday papers of 10 October 1993, in regard to restrictive Government and revenue regulations inhibiting business and of the fact that this view is endorsed by many businessmen, he will give the measures, if any, he will take to alleviate the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Government policy is to take a broad approach to the development of industry based on the proposals put forward in the Culliton report. The individual elements in the policy were set out in "Employment Through Enterprise" published in May '93 and include proposals aimed at improving the environment for business. In addition, the Task Force on Small Business chaired by the Minister for Commerce and Technology, Seamus Brennan, is examining, inter alia, the constraints facing small business and will be reporting soon.
