Vol. 434 No. 10

Written Answers. - Reopening of Tipperary Hospital.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

154 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health if he will restore St. Vincent's Hospital in Tipperary town; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The South Eastern Health Board is responsible for the provision of health services in South Tipperary. St. Vincent's Hospital, Tipperary town which was a 42 bed district hospital closed in June 1987 as part of the board's plan to rationalise services in the area. I understand that the board has no plans to reopen St. Vincent's.

The buildings which previously accommodated the district hospital have been adapted for use as a health centre and day care centres for the mentally ill and the elderly. These facilities have greatly strengthened community care services in the area.
