Vol. 434 No. 10

Written Answers. - Primary Teacher Panel.

Paul Bradford

Question:

162 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education her views on whether the present rules governing teachers on primary schools panels can cause a situation whereby teachers are travelling up to 60 miles or more to work; and if, in view of the burden which this can cause, she has any proposals to change these rules.

The purpose of the panel is to provide a mechanism for the redeployment of permanent assistant teachers whose posts fall to be suppressed due to declining enrolments.

A teacher who has opted to have his/her name placed on the appropriate panel may refuse any offer of a post if it is over 28 miles by road from his or her present school. There are at present no proposals to change the rules which govern the operation of the panels.
